CALENDARS 2009
Hello friends of Bianca
we are planning to print calendars for 2009. The idea is that on the page corresponding to a month there should be one or two pictures of dogs or cats. This is why we turn ourselves to people that adopted animals from our shelter or who are fostering our animals or who are friends of our shelter if they would like to sponsor the production of such calendar and thus include the photo of the animal of their choice in one month.
Then, we will offer the calendar to such person and other calendars will be sold which will allow us to gather some money for winter. To cover the usual costs: warm blankets for dogs, food, vets, vaccinations. At the same time it is a promotion for our shelter and we hope it will help some animals be adopted or some fostered.
The costs are: a whole page (and then you put there one or more animals) - 20 euros per person or a half page (you choose one animal and you share the page with another animal sponsored by soemone else) - 15 euros per person. There will be a short description of an animal and a name of the person sponsoring the page.

Last week, a recup: Clara and puppies, on the supermarket parking
Clara was with 5 puppies on the parking of the supermarket in Quinta do Conde, "camped" next to an electricity box. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived there, one puppy was already dead, the other one had disappeared and one had a broken leg.
What a third world country......
The broken leg of the puppy will recover well, the vet assured us.

Last week, a recup: Rosalina, serra de estrela cross (adopted)
Last week it was not only Leninha that we welcomed into our shelter.
We also found Rosalina. She was in the middle of national road, with her period and a bunch of dogs trying to climb on her. Some cars and trucks stopped or slowed down. Some did not. Many drivers don't pay attention to animals on the road at all. We had to ask 4 men to help us catch her - they managed and that was her luck. Another male was not so lucky, he was killed there by a car.
She is so sweet, has such beautiful eyes......

Leninha - Serra de Estrela ADOPTED
Leninha was found like Chocolate was found, the only difference was that Chocolate was found during the day and Leninha at night.On the same road, the same suffering, the same cross... Leninha did not even have force to walk. She could not manage to lift her legs in order to enter the car. We thought she had a hip dislocation, but no, she was just very very tired of walking. She slept the whole night and the next day too....
We found a big mammary tumor on her. The day after she was taken to the vet to have the tumor removed and be sterilised. She also had a "blue mark" on her mouth, she might have had an encounter with a car.
Someone was actually looking for a Serra de Estrela in the area, a female apparently lost for over a week and this person thought Leninha was hers - contacted us quickly in order to underline that the dog should not be sterilised!!!! And her health, no interest? Seems no, one can make business of selling puppies, this is most important.
Well now... Leninha is fine and happy. She is lovely and very, very gentle. She weighs around 50 kgs and she is a golden fur Serra de Estrela. She is with us, in the shelter but she is looking for a permanent home. A home where someone would give her everything she has never had or that she has already forgotten....
