News from Mimi, now Kika

We just received news from Mimi, who was named Kika after being adopted one year ago. Her new owners said she was very happy with them and all family loves her. And judging by these photos we really can see she is happy and by her owners words: " she is very happy with us. Our daugther loves her as well as the rest of the family, even if the garden, among other things, suffers once in a while."
We are very happy about it and wish Kika and her family all the best.

Samuel's owner died, he was abandoned and needs help for his eyes!

Samuel's owner died and the dog was put on the street. If dogs could speak he should say how sorry  and unhappy he is...
Moreover, this little dog of 5 kg has a problem with his eyes, we hope it is not serious, but we will take him to the vet and see... He is a little shy, because he is afraid. He needs a home to be happy.

Aladino waiting a home (adopted)

Aladino is already waiting: we need a lovely home for such a lovely dog.  His broken leg has healed very well and he is entirely recovered.

Sacha is blind and needs urgently a home

Sacha was found in Lagoa de Albufeira bumping into trees. She is completely blind. She is a  little shy because she can not see......Sacha is very young, about 1 year old. Whoever abandoned her did not want a blind dog.... We don't know if her condition is from birth or if she just lost her sight but we know - as the vet diagnosed - that she will never see again.
She is in a temporary family and she is already learning her way through the house. She knows where to walk, where to lied down - she is using her other senses. She can have a quality life in a familiar environment.

She really needs a sweet home. It is s very special dog for a very special person.

Two urgent adoptions of Lucky and Sebastião (both adopted)

Lucky was found 3 months ago near the house of volunteers with an elastic collar but without an identification. At that time we didn't know if he was lost or abandoned but now, 3 months later, he is still in the house of the same volunteers who found him. Their house is already 'full' of animals and Lucky needs a home for him urgently. Lucky is s nice, gentle and sweet cat, social with children other animals including dogs and even is he is not a kitten anymore, he also deserves a home!

Sebastião was hit by a car and his back leg was broken. He needed to be operated and to stay in complete rest for a while. But this was months ago and Sebastião is now still living in the same cage, because Bianca doesn't have a cat shelther and we don't have anymore temporary families available. Sebastião is a really sweet and social cat and we don't understand why he wasn't adopted yet. He is 3 years old, he is castrated, dewormed and with his vaccinations up-to-date. He has all conditions to go immediately to a home and then he would be a very happy cat!

Adopted: Nina!

This is Nina. She was adopted in September 2006 as a tiny puppy of a few weeks only, by a nice couple living in Montijo.
Now, a few years later, Nina is a adult female dog and looks lovely!
Judging by these photos she is very happy, loved and a great company.

News from Parral

Parral has already been operated and as we had feared, the eye had to be removed. But he can still see very well with only one eye.
He's a very gentle and sweet puppy and it is of utmost importance to find him a new home with a new owner who would love him very much. Let's see if someone offers to adopt him!
 

Sad news from Alf

We are sad to announce that Alf is no longer with us. Infortunaly he died... he was fighting to survive until the end but it was not enough.
At least we know we tried to gave him the best conditions possible for him in the end of his days.
We are sad for Alf.

Adoptions: Guliver needs desperately a home

Guliver was adopted from us as a puppy and recently, 1.5 year later, given back because his owners moved to a smaller apartment. They decided the dog was too big for their new lifestyle, dumped him in the shelter and never again asked for him.
The dog is confused and sad. He is now in a kennel and is begging for attention of everyone that passes: "please take me with you, what am I doing here?". He is big, house-trained, walks well on the lead, is vaccinated and extremely gentle with people. Does not like other male dogs though.

Alf still fighting for his life.

Alf is fighting for his life even if his diagnostic is not very optimistic. This means that he wants to life and we are hoping he will manage to recover. Let's wait for better days for Alf.

Aladino is recovering and needs a home! (adopted)

Aladino is recovering very well but now he needs urgently a place to go. He really need a home, that would be the perfect place for him to rest and recover.

Flight assistance

If you fly - on vacation or for work - from Lisbon to Belgium, Holland or Germany, you can help our pets. You can take an animal with you to its new home.
Lets us know when you fly and we will manage all details including: animal passports, skykennels, a person to take the animal to Lisbon airport and do the check-in with you and a person in the destination airport to pick up the animal.
You don't need to do anything except transporting the animal. This is your way to help a dog or a cat that needs a home.

Fifi, one lucky poodle puppy (adopted)

Fifi, a white poodle, was found yesterday on the side of the road, scared and with eyes full of supplication. Beside Fifi was another poodle, yet this one was already dead.


Despite being scared, Fifi let herself be caught. His friend was not so lucky, he was dead already, hit by a car... And Fifi was waiting for her friend to wake up! Friendship and solidarity. Most probably she would not go away. The feelings of the animals are like those of humans. The big difference is that an animal is always fair and would never leave its owner. This difference makes them into noble living beings.

Fifi's fur was impossible to treat, she had to be sheared with scissors and she waited patiently for 2 hours until the end, sleeping and licking their friends' hands and faces, the ones who rescued her, otherwise she would have probably met the same end like her friend..

Parral, a young dog

Parral has been found today near Parral, that's why the name.




He still a young dog, probably one year old, judging by his teeth: all white and clean, however one of his canine tooth is already broken! Even being such a young dog, it seems that he has already suffered a lot in his life.He is very thin, just skin and bones. One of his eyes is probably lost for good and he has wound made by the ticks.

When Bianca volunteer gave him a bowl full of food, he lied down in front of it, put his legs around it and ate as if he has not eaten for long time which is probably exactly how it was.



Parral is very sweet and gentle dog!! Some animals don't know how to survive on the streets and if we did not give him a shelter, he would have died very soon.....

Nana (adopted)

Nana is a female dog abandoned at Lagoa de Albufeira, near Sesimbra. Another dog with Leishmaniasis, but we will take care of her and treat her and soon she will be just fine. She is young (around 3 years old) and beautiful and she is waiting for a new home - a home forever!!

In her eyes, we can see she is crying... And some people still believe that animals don't feel?

Tiara (already adopted)

Beside being shy, Tiara is a sweet and lovely dog. She is ready to go to a nice home, she only needs love and a small place on a sofa.

Fiorentina (adopted)

This sweet and gentle small female dog was abandoned months ago in a street. Her ex-owners left her on the street with a basket! Just imagine. And she, a faithful doggy, just stayed there, for months, sleeping in her basket on the street and begging for food.
We have taken her now to our shelter and we will have to treat her skin infection (sarna) - a normal thing for an animal to catch if it lives on the street under rain and in whatever conditions lacking basic care. Then she will be sterilised and we hope to find a nice home for her.

Extreme Makeover 2

And look here - a simply amazing progress the Scooby made over a period of 4 months. He was found in November 2009 extremely thin, hungry and with tick fever. He was treated, he put on weight and is now ready for adoption.
Cross sharpei (but smaller), vaccinated, ~ 4 years old, gentle and social.
